Well, our big, bad Beagles are not so big, bad after all. One week they tangle with a possum and the next they are running scared of a frog, a tree frog at that! I really should not say they, as Tasha (otherwise known as the Princess of the Red Oak Ranch) was not involved in either one of these incidents…she is too sophisticated for that kind of behavior. MO, on the other hand is…just a male; what else can I say? Since the weather has been so hot, they are both sleeping most of the days away in the “hound holes” that have had water put in them to make them cooler. We have 3 bowls setting outside with water in them so that they will have plenty of water.
We heard MO barking and jumping back from the water bowl. He was doing quite a little dance, jumping to one side and then another. Dashing up to the water bowl and then jumping back. What a show he was putting on. However, we had to check to see what he was barking at in case it was a snake. When we got to the water bowl and saw him still barking at it as if to warn us to keep away from the monster in it…we discovered the frog. A cute little tree frog who had gotten itself caught in the bowl. He had climbed up the side of it, still had two feet in the water, one foot over the top of the bowl and the last foot looked as if it was the “pusher” foot….pusher foot as in helping to get out of the bowl.
I picked up the bowl, walked away from MO, poured the frog out of the bowl and set it back down in its spot. MO immediately stopped barking and waited for his after-breakfast treat. Oh, life goes on at the Red Oak Ranch!
