The Fairfield Eagles track team converged onto the Mike A. Myers track complex on the University of Texas campus in Austin. Two Eagle athletes finished with medals to close out outstanding careers in many sports.
Jashaughn Hatcher completed his high school career at Fairfield High School with a silver medal in the shot put. After four throws, he had the longest distance with a 50’ 8” toss. On the final throw of the event, Darren Wilmore of River Oaks Castleberry moved into the lead and was the gold medalist at 51’2.5”.
Morgan Coleman stayed in the lead group in the girls 800-meter run and finished third and came home with a bronze medal. Her 2:19.32 time was less that a half second from a second-place finish.
Haley Phillips finished fifth in the girls shot put. She did not top her school record throw of 42’4” from the regional meet. Her qualifying throw of 39’ 11.5” was good for fifth.
A.J. Polk finished eighth in the 200-meter dash. The fast final was won by Robert Gregory of Houston Wheatley.
The Fairfield girls 4×400 meter relay team of Jamesha Fields, Iesha Jenkins, Carsyn Cox and Morgan Coleman finished eighth in the meet. Texarkana Liberty-Eylau won the event followed by Canyon and Waxahachie Life School.
In other schools, Randy Canady of Groesbeck finished eighth in the 1600-meter run. He had run the 3200-meter run earlier in the day and finished ninth.
Key’Undre Davis competed in the 1A boys triple jump and brought a third medal back to Freestone County. He jumped a winning distance of 44’ 6.25” and was four inches ahead of Carter Abney of New Home and Isaac Jackson of La Poyner.
The Coolidge sprint relay team took a third-place finish, narrowly edged out by teams from Paducah and Garden City.
Tionna Kirven of Coolidge finished eighth in the girls 1A 200-meter dash. The boys 4×200 meter relay team from Oakwood finished fourth. The Coolidge girls 4×200 meter relay team finished fifth.
Madison Crader of Elkhart won the bronze medal in the 3A girls high jump. She jumped 5’4” and was behind Mara Hering of McGregor and Chloe Davis of New Boston.
