This month has been a busy time at the City of Fairfield. From the Citywide Clean Up, early voting, to recovering from storm damage, the employees for the City have been busy at work.
There is one item that was discussed this month and later passed by the City Council. As you probably know, we are finishing up an upgrade of the city’s water meters. These meters are automated, and allows our employees to read the city’s meters in one day instead of 10 days. It gives us the time to complete the tasks that you all expect us to complete.
Like every utility, you expect to be billed for the previous month’s usage. Using these meters allow us to stay current, instead of billing for water you used two months ago. To help us catch up, the council voted to change the read dates for our water system on the 15th of every month instead of the first of the month. This way, a billing cycle from the 15th to the 15th allows all customers, including our Westwood water customers, to be on the same billing cycle.
To help get us caught up, we are adding an extra week to the next two months, and for those two months only, in May and June. We have calculated that by adding the week for the next two months is the least painful way to get all our customers on schedule.
While this column is one way for us to get the word out, we will also be placing a blue tag on doors. If you see a blue tag on your door in the coming weeks, it does not mean your water is being turned off. Rather, it is that reminder.
We are also working with our local post office to help get bills to our customers faster. If you experience any issues with your billing, please call us or stop by City Hall at 222 S. Mount St.
And as always, the City of Fairfield employees will take the time to listen to your needs. Feel free to stop by City Hall or give me a call at 903-389-2633 or send me an email at nate.smith@fairfieldtexas.net if you have a question or an idea. Many residents have come in already and I always enjoy visiting with everyone.
