Two new police officers, an animal control/code enforcement officer, Public Works technician, and utility clerk will join the staff of the City of Teague following Wednesday’s special called meeting, February 6th.
Following executive session, the Council approved the employment of Police Officers Robert Remaley and Christopher Condren; Eric Sterling, Animal Control/Code Enforcement/911 Coordinator; Rogelio Vasquez, Public Works Technician; and Hailey Brown, Utility Clerk.
Also discussed during the special called meeting was amending the City’s ordinance regarding the Municipal Court Judge.
Theresa Prasil, City Administrator / Secretary explained that the current ordinance does not list the judge as a municipal officer or include a clause for their removal.
She told the Council that the ordinance, like all ordinances, should be clear and concise in compliance with state laws.
Teague currently employs a municipal judge, Shirley Mays, part-time for a term of two years. Mays is available in office Thursdays from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m., however Prasil explained that due to commitments with another municipality and her duties as a Justice of the Peace, those hours can vary without notice.
The Council approved the amendment to the existing ordinance to include procedures for removal of said judge as an appointed municipal officer; providing a savings and severability clause to take effect February 7, 2019.
