Bill Filed To Rename Hwy 84 In Memory Of Slain Trooper

A portion of Highway 84 in Freestone County may soon bear the name of a local hero.

House Bill (HB) 693 was filed on the second day of the Texas Legislative Session by State Representative Cody Harris (District 8).

If passed, the bill would designate U.S. Highway 84 in Freestone County as the “Trooper Damon Allen Memorial Highway,” effective September 1, 2019.

As many know, Damon Allen was killed in 2017 on Thanksgiving Day while conducting a traffic stop as a Texas Department of Public Safety trooper.

Allen served both Freestone and Limestone counties as a trooper.

He left behind his wife and three daughters.
