What an interesting week-end we had. Two of our sons came down to help with the cleaning of the water gaps…a very big deal this cleaning. The Colonel and I were both dreading cleaning them out because we have done it so many times only to have it rain and clog them up again. But, they had to be cleaned because the Yearling Herd needs to be able to run on all their pastures and the clogged gaps offered them a way out. So, we got this brilliant idea to call two of the boys and invite them down to have a work party with meal following.

We had (emphasis on had) a grappling hook that we thought would be a big help. The original hook’s rope broke and we lost the hook part of it so we ordered another one last year. It came, we saw it, we lost it. No, not in the water but in the house/garage/shop/barn. We searched absolutely everywhere…well not everywhere because we couldn’t find it. So, we decided we must have put it someplace where it would be the first place we would look when we needed it. Alas, we must have changed our minds because we could describe the bubble filled envelope it came in (gray) but couldn’t find the envelope either. We would talk about it and come up with a new place it was sure to be and nope, not there either! On and on it went. The boys were going to be here early and at 12:30 a.m. we were still hunting for the grappling hook.

The boys got here and The Colonel took them down to the creek to show them where they would be working. Meanwhile, I cooked lunch…two roasts, gravy, potatoes, salad, hot rolls, etc. They certainly cleaned up their plates!!! The gaps look very nice…the Grappling Hook? Didn’t really need it, still haven’t found it but The Red Oak Ranch has another one coming in the mail. This time we will put it someplace we would never think to look and maybe we can find it!
