Sometimes it makes a lot of sense to just calm down, think about things, check things out, and then make a decision. I put Sundance, my beautiful horse up in the paddock area on Saturday night. She actually wanted in that area because there was a lot of grass in there since she had been turned out of that area. I gave her oats, which she dearly loves, closed the gate that leads into the Horse Pasture and locked it, then cleaned and filled the water trough for her. After eating the oats she turned and started eating the grass. I figured she was more interested in that than me so I went back to the house. Intended to turn her out of the paddock on Sunday but when I went down there she was not up at the gate begging to get out. She sometimes sleeps in so I just turned around and went back to the house.
A couple of hours later, I drove down there and still she was not out. Very interesting I thought. I called and called her but she didn’t come up. I started walking down to the stable area, calling her name every once in a while. I got to the stables and I called her name again because I didn’t want to spook her. Nothing! Immediately I thought she must have died from the heat. I looked in the first stable and nothing. I thought oh no, I don’t want to see her lying dead on the ground. I looked in the second stable and nothing again! This time I immediately thought she has been stolen! I started running back to the truck because I wanted to check the Horse Pasture just to make sure she wasn’t in there. As I ran by a place where a tree had fallen on the fence and I had temporarily put a bungee cord on it, out of the corner of my eye I saw the bungee cord had been broken and the fence was standing wide open. Since the Red Oak Ranch doesn’t raise any dumb animals, Sundance ate the oats, got a drink, saw the open fence and went her own way!!
