The Fairfield High School graduating class of 1958 celebrated the 60th anniversary of its graduation on April 7, 2018.
The met for lunch at Sam’s Restaurant in Fairfield, then traveled out to Chambers Creek Reservoir to the lake house of Mary Jane Alexander’s great niece. There they spent an afternoon of coffee and conversation.
Classmates attending were Joe Neal Baker, Jeanette (Davis) La Frentz and husband Ralph, Preston Bonner, Mary Jane (Anderson) Alexander and husband Phil, Buddy Aultman and wife Jeanette, Emma Jean (Ivy) Vande Streek and husband Wayne, June (Bray) Slagle and husband Peter, Felecia (Speed) Lemons with sister Margie (Speed) Carrigan, Wanda (York) Sanders and John Sanders, and Paul Burkhart and wife Carol.
Also attending was Mrs. Mildred Burkhart, Paul’s mother, the last surviving mother of a class member.
Class members that were unable to attend were Donald McLeod, David Sutton, Dr. Ben Blount, Dimples (Crane) Rutherford, Cling Long, and Lamar Robertson.
Some members of the class that moved away before graduation, but often attend the reunions, are Jerry Franklin, Charlotte (Horton) Stanley, La Wanda (Finch) Cox, and Willie Lee Shanks.
Classmates that have passed away are: John Laird Bonner, Ann (Speed) Robertson, Mae Dell (Keaton) Whiteside, Dr. Richard Kirgan, Rance Stone, Betty Lou (Jones) Vestal, Carl Heath, Jr., Lucy (Carroll) Salter, Maxie Key, Dorothy (James) Whalen, Stanley Brown, and Annette (Ritter) Solley.
Class sponsors were Mrs. Ruby O’Neal and Mr. Jack Cely.
The senior trip was to the Flying L Ranch in Bandera.
Class valedictorian was Dr. Ben Blount; salutatorian was Annette Solley.
The reunion ended with the cutting of a cake reading “60 Years of Fun.”
Planning the event were Mary Jane Alexander and Emma Jean Vande Streek.
