Teague’s Chamber of Commerce hosted its annual awards ceremony and banquet Thursday, April 12th at the Community Center downtown.
The building was beautifully decorated in black and gold with lovely flower arrangements and candles at each table. The Community Center was filled to capacity with many friends and family of the evening’s award recipients in the audience.
Former recipient, and current Chamber of Commerce Treasurer, Rhonda Jones proudly presented the coveted Boyd Cup to longtime Teague resident and active volunteer, Archie Mae Brooke. (Pictured at top)
“Archie Mae has worked endless hours as a volunteer throughout the years,” shared Jones. “It is an honor to add the name ‘Archie Mae Brooke’ to the prestigious list of recipients of the William D. Boyd Cup.”
Ms. Brooke has served as manager of the Senior Citizen Center, organized fundraisers for the Center, and worked with several local organizations like the Chamber of Commerce, Lion’s Club, Rotary Club, Methodist Men’s Club, NAACP, and the Teague Library.
The City of Teague even held an Archie Mae Brooke Day on October 29, 2005 celebrating her dedication and service to the community.
Ms. Brooke is a 1944 graduate of Teague High School, and a faithful member of Eighth Avenue Baptist Church. She and her husband of fifty years, Burley Brooke, Jr. have one son, Roger, and two grandchildren. Numerous friends and family were in attendance to congratulate her on this well- deserved honor.
Active volunteer and current President of the Teague Chamber of Commerce, Debbie Sanoja earned the honor of Citizen of the Year for her countless hours of volunteer work and community outreach.
The Teague Ministerial Alliance received the title of Organization of the Year for their combined efforts throughout the City of Teague, most recently hosting events like the Teague Easter Egg Hunt.
Brookshire Brothers of Teague was selected as this year’s Business of the Year in recognition of their continuous efforts to support the local schools and community.
Students of the Year included Layton Little of Teague Elementary; Araceli Palacios of Teague Intermediate; Piper Smith of Teague Junior High; Caitlyn Bodine of Teague High School, and Henry Warren Turner of Teague Lion Academy. (Pictured top to bottom, left to right)
