The Freestone County Historical Museum is excited to announce the museum’s “50 Year Celebration.”
The museum staff and board would like to make Freestone County 7th graders a part of the celebration by sponsoring a Freestone County History Museum Display Poster Board Contest for all county 7th grade Social Studies and Language Arts students.
The winning board will be displayed in the Poster Display Area at the museum throughout 2017. There is a $50.00 prize for the winning student or group; and a $50.00 prize for the teacher plus a pizza party for the classroom that submits the winning poster! The teacher will also receive a $100 gift certificate for the purchase of historic fiction and non-fiction books/materials for the classroom!
Each 7th grade classroom will be able to submit two boards to be judged at the museum. We hope you will approve this project for your 7th grade students and encourage the teachers and students to participate.
The display board project is based on many of the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills standards in both Language Arts and Social Studies. Creating the boards will give students a chance to be deeply involved in history, research, critical thinking, and writing while at the same time creating something for their local community.
The museum staff would be happy to help teachers and students with research for this project. The museum work room has a large collection of county photographs and files. Classes or individual students who wish to visit the museum will be admitted free – please call ahead to set up a time to meet with a museum staff member.
All Home School Students working on a 7th grade curriculum are also encouraged to compete!!!
Letters were sent out to all principals in October and a reminder to all Social Studies and Language Arts teachers this week!
The staff and board at the Freestone County Historical Museum encourages all 7th grade students to participate and looks forward to seeing and displaying the winning poster!!
