Challenging other churches in Fairfield to do the same, First United Methodist Church Pastor Richard Heyduck presents a $300 check to Director of Pleasant Hills Children’s Home, Dr. Harry Thomassen (far left), to be used for back-to-school expenses for the children.
The funds were raised by the United Methodist Women through pecan sales. Members include Back Row (left-right): Lisa Underhill, Liz Thornton and Naomi White; Front Row (l-r): Christi Heyduck, Donna Senter and UMW President Lynda Burt.
“Anytime we can help, if we have the funds, we will,” says Burt.
The group raises money through pecan sales and the annual Harvest Dinner, set this year for November 15th.
These fundraisers assist with local missions at the nursing homes and for school-age children with weekend backpacks that include food items. The UMW has also sent Christmas candy to Mexico, flood buckets to Louisiana, and assisted with the church’s homeless ministry.
It’s not too early to get in your orders for this year’s pecans, which are set to arrive the first of November.
