(Drop-off day is Friday, April 26, 8 am to 6 pm.)

One person’s trash is indeed another person’s treasure and the Community Care Club’s Giant Garage Sale is out to prove the truth of that old adage. The annual event is being held Saturday, April 27, from 8 am to 2:30 pm at the Southern Oaks Volunteer Fire Department facility located on Southern Oaks Drive just northeast of the Shell Station on FM 416.

CCC’s Garage Sale committee is comprised of Kay Medders, Mary Schutz, Nancy Grosshans, Carole Stubblefield, Debbee Nyman, Lynda Mitchell and Linda Cline, all women who live on the south side of Richland Chambers Lake and members of CCC.   The committee is currently seeking items to be sold during the upcoming event.  According to event organizers, their motto this year is “If it doesn’t bring you joy, donate it!”

Funds raised at the Garage Sale go to such community-wide CCC projects as a nursing home gifting program, specific needs of the Southern Oaks Fire Department, financial support for Child Protective Services, scholarships for area students and the Lunch, Learn & Play summer reading program for kids.

“This huge sale provides a great chance for area residents to do some spring cleaning, decluttering and overall re-organizing,” said Mary Schutz, co-chair for the event. “We ask that donors bring their items to the Southern Oaks Fire Department on Friday, April 26, 8 am to 6 pm the day before the sale, so we can set-up and organize items all at once.”

“Then all day Saturday (8 am to 2:30 pm), we’ll be holding our wild and crazy sale,” said Schutz.

According to co-chair, Kay Medders, the 2018 garage sale was quite successful and helped CCC to raise just over $3000 for the club’s charitable projects. “We hope to bring in plenty of prized items and even more buyers so we can exceed that amount this year.”

Requested items for the sale include: furniture, tools, toys in good shape, linens, kitchen items, home décor and garden décor items, collectibles, fishing gear, electronics in working order and sports items.

“Bring your items to the Southern Oaks Fire Department anytime between 8 am and 6 pm on Friday, April 26th,” said Medders. “If you need assistance in getting a larger item to the sale venue, call us at 903-389-7586 or 817-773-5046 before the 26th and we’ll make arrangements to pick it up. Oh, and if you have a used Lamborghini you need to move, we’ll be glad to take that as well!”
