Saturday proved to be a successful day for four students of the Wortham High School Choir Program.
Since July, students of the state of Texas in high school programs have been working on selections chosen by the Texas Music Educators Association for advancing students to the state level choirs.
Though Wortham ISD is a 2A classification, it is proud to have both a junior high and high school Choir program. Thirty-five students are currently studying to benefit from the classes and maintain a busy calendar schedule for performance.
The Small School Choir project of TMEA began around 5 years ago seeing the need to create an option for students on a competitive level in rural communities. Sight-reading and foreign language selections are prominent in the audition process.
On Saturday, November 3, 2018, eight students from each singing part (soprano, alto, tenor, and bass) were chosen through audition to represent Region 8’s AREA choir. They include TaTa Felder – alto, Parker Fautt – tenor, Taylor Montgomery – alto, and Kaleb Hook – alto.
All students plan to use music and singing for scholarship audition in the next few months to audition for higher level music programs in colleges.
The students’ clinic and concert will be in Bryan on Saturday, November, 10th. Their concert will include The Brahms’ Gypsy Dances, Bonse Aba, Adjuvandum by Martini, and In This Place.
