Wortham ISD students participated in a Veterans Day program last week that served as an opportunity to show gratitude to those who have served our country.
Reciting the pledge of Allegiance were Wortham Pre-K students Madelyn Chasteen, Kiner Taylor, and Madison Bruce.
Guest speaker Eric Smith (at top) concluded that he was “honored to serve.”
The older son of a career Marine, Smith served his time in the Army and is a retired Chief Warrant Officer 5. He logged 31 years active-duty in military service and 14 years Army Government service.
Smith had 14 permanent change of duty stations, with developments in Bosnia, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Iraq Kuwait, and Afghanistan. These included 2 hardship duty stations in Korea and Afghanistan.
Smith and his wife, Donna, have two children and six grandchildren.
Not all of the veterans attending spoke to the crowd, but they all enjoyed being part of the program.
