On May 16, 2022, at approximately 11:21 a.m., The Wortham Police Department responded to the Mexia High School to assist the Mexia Police Department with a report of a firearm being discharged inside the school. There were no injuries to any students, staff or responding officers. The Mexia Police Department is conducting the ongoing investigation and a person of interest has been detained and a weapon recovered.
There were multiple agencies from around the area who responded to the incident including the Mexia Police Department, the Groesbeck Police Department, the Limestone County Sheriff’s Office, the Wortham Police Department, the Coolidge Police Department, the Freestone County Sheriff’s Office, the McLennan County Sheriff’s Office, and the Texas Department of Public
