On Saturday, January 21, five Wortham ISD students traveled to Groesbeck High School to perform in the Region 8 ATSSB (Association of Texas Small School Bands) All-Region Band Concert. The students that were chosen for this prestigious band had to audition for the top places from among numerous bands in their district. Only the very best musicians qualified to perform in this band.
Two Wortham Junior High students earned high scores to qualify. They were Benjamin Havens on percussion, and Travis Laminack on tuba. Three Wortham High School students achieved high marks and made the band. They were Skylar Potter on flute, Maura Batts on clarinet, and Garrett Covey on euphonium.
After auditioning several weeks earlier and making the All-Region Band, the musicians spent all day Saturday rehearsing and practicing with guest clinicians that traveled from across the state. The students only had one day to learn and practice several pieces of music.
That evening, the students put on a concert for the community. The students learned a lot from the conductors, and the All-Region Band Concert performance was outstanding!
Congratulations to these hard working students on earning this very distinguished honor!
