Wortham played Mart on Saturday, Oct. 10th and won in four sets: Wortham won 25-14; Mart won 21-25; Wortham won 25-16; and Wortham won 25-10.

District record 5-1 and in second place

Riley Winstead led the Lady Bulldog’s offense with 11 kills and 1 block.

Cate Samford had 6 kills and one dig.

Madison Newhouse had 4 kills and one dig.

Dakota Butler had 4 kills and two digs.

Rashay Covey had 3 kills.

Setter Reagan Stuver had 26 assists, 7 digs, 2 kills, and one ace.

Defensive specialist Grace McCoslin had 7 digs and one ace.

Libero Kenlie Stuver had 6 digs.

Allie McCoslin had 4 digs and 2 aces.

Kayla Hernandez had 4 digs.

The Lady Bulldogs will play Marlin this Friday, Oct. 16th in Marlin.  The match with Bremon will be rescheduled.


The Wortham Lady Bulldogs started the second round of district with win over the Axtell Lady Longhorns, early last week. The Lady Longhorns were in third place in district and the Lady Bulldogs were in second place.

The battle between the teams took five sets. Wortham won the first set 26-24 and then lost the next two 15-25, 20-25.

The Lady Bulldogs came out strong the fourth set taking the win 25-15.

The Lady Bulldogs took an early lead in the fifth set but faced an 15-15 battle.

The Lady Bulldogs took the win with the next two points through their solid defense throughout the long rallies. Lady Bulldogs win the fifth set 17-15.

The defense and serve receive lead the Lady Bulldogs to victory and continue their second place seating in district. Libero Kenlie Stuver had an impressive passing game in serve receive along with 29 digs, one assist and one kill.

The defense continued to carry the team with Allie McCoslin having 13 digs and Grace McCoslin with 9 digs. The two twin sisters also lead the team in serves with Allie having 19 serves and Grace having 18 serves.

Kayla Hernandez contributed to the strong defense with 11 digs.

Leading the offense for the Lady Bulldogs was freshman Riley Winstead with 16 kills, 3 blocks, and 3 digs.

Cate Samford had 8 kills, 5 digs, and 1 assist.

Freshman Madison Newhouse had 6 kills and 2 digs.

Sophomore Rashay Covey had 4 kills and Freshman Dakota Butler had 2 kills, 2 blocks, and 1 dig.

The Lady Bulldogs are currently in second place in district with a 4-1 record and have seized another season in the playoffs making this year the 23rd consecutive year of playoffs for Wortham.

Wortham will face Mart this coming Saturday in Wortham.
