Addressing a room full of business owners and managers, Rosemary Sage Jones presented a workshop on the “New Laws Effecting Employee Compensation.” One of the biggest changes is the salary level for exempt employees, which is being raised from $455 up to $913 per week, effective December 2, 2016. Exempt employees are those paid a set wage, rather than hourly, who do not qualify for overtime pay. Also, beginning January of 2020, the salary threshold will automatically be raised every three years. This workshop was hosted by the City of Fairfield and the Fairfield Chamber of Commerce. Chamber Director Brenda Pate gave a special thanks to Teresa Rogers of La Quinta for opening their conference room for the event.
