Workforce Solutions for the Heart of Texas is hosting its annual Fall Hiring Fair Thursday, Aug. 26, from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. at The Base at the Extraco Events Center located at 4601 Bosque Blvd. in Waco.
More than 60 local businesses are expected to participate in the event, and over 2,500 job openings will be available for job seekers to explore. Online registration is open to job seekers until Aug. 25 at www.bit.ly/fallhiringfair. Job seekers will also be able to register in person the day of the event.
“This is always one of our largest hiring events, and we’re looking forward to hosting it in person this year,” said Jose Palacios, Manager of Business and Industry Initiatives for Workforce Solutions for the Heart of Texas. “Local employers from multiple industries are lining up to attend this event because they’re eager to meet and hire qualified candidates. This hiring fair is a great opportunity for anyone who is looking for a job to network with businesses and potentially walk out with a job.”
Job seekers who register online have the option to upload a resume for business representatives to view after the event, and all job seekers are encouraged to bring printed copies of their resume to the event if they have one.
“Job seekers aren’t required to bring resumes to any of our hiring fairs, but we encourage them to bring one if they have one,” said Palacios. “For those who need it, computers, printers and resume assistance are available at no cost at each of our Workforce Solutions Resource Centers.”
Resource centers are in Marlin, Teague, Hillsboro, and Waco. Job seekers should call their nearest center to make an appointment. Virtual resume and job readiness workshops are also hosted weekly at no cost to job seekers. Center addresses and phone numbers, as well as virtual workshop dates, are available online at www.hotworkforce.com.
Because businesses want to quickly fill open positions, many have been interviewing and hiring candidates during hiring events. So, Palacios encourages attendees to dress to impress and be prepared for on-site interviews.
“Job seekers can make a great first impression by wearing clean, pressed attire,” he said. “Job seekers can also prepare for conversations with business recruiters by looking through the list of participating businesses on our Facebook event page and doing a little research on those they’re interested in speaking with at the event.”
An updated list of participating businesses is available on the Workforce Solutions for the Heart of Texas Fall Hiring Fair Facebook Event Page at www.bit.ly/fhf-fb-event.
To ensure the safety of all participants, Palacios said business representatives and job seekers are encouraged to wear masks and socially distance during the event. Hand sanitizer will also be available for use. For more information about the event, visit www.hotworkforce.com or call 254-296-5200.
