The weekly Lake Fairfield Tuesday Night Bass Tournament was held on September 4th but there was something different about this event. Since no legal fish were weighed in on the August 28th tournament, the payout grew to a whopping $450.
Eleven fishermen failed to weigh a fish the previous Tuesday, which meant that $165 pot would be added to the $270 the eighteen fishermen put in on the September 4th event.
Six fish were brought to the scales with J.D. Hancock of Teague winning first place and $270 for his 4.52 pound bass. Lane Smith of Mexia placed second with a 4.41 bass and grabbed the $180 price. Others weighing fish were Brian Kelm, 3.97; Mike Mabry, 3.86; and Paul Cobb and Bubba Karr, each weighing in a 3.42 bass.
Entry fee for the event is $15 per person with 100% of the entry fees being paid back to the winning fishermen. Payout on a field of 1-20 entries is 60% of the pot for first place and 40% for second. If 21 or more anglers participate, the pot is split 50% for first, 30% for second and 20% for third place.
The weekly tournament is conducted out of the front boat ramp at Lake Fairfield. Tournament hours will now be from 5:30 pm until 8:30 pm to compensate for reduced daylight hours. Registration will be taken from 5:00 pm-5:25 pm. For more information, contact Paul Cobb at 903-879-0422 or Scooter Long at 903-391-7000.
