“Hey, Mr. Wilson” was heard more than one in the regular season finale in Whitney. Devin Wilson ran for four touchdowns and passed for two more in a 39-14 win.
West defeated Teague to clinch the district title and Grandview was the second-place team and Whitney joins the playoff set and will face District 10-3A Division I champion Cameron.
Wilson began the scoring with a pair of first quarter touchdown runs. He had a one-yard run and later a seven-yard run to take an early 12-0 lead. The Goats had two turnovers in their first possessions and that lead to Wildcat points
Whitney added another touchdown on the first play of the second quarter on a Wilson nine-yard run and the lead grew to 18-0.
Groesbeck put points on the board on an Ameer Lee with just over a minute to go in the first half. It took only one play for Whitney to get that score back on Wilson’s first touchdown pass on the night to Juan Saucedo for the 64-yard score to send the teams to the half time break with a 25-7 Wildcat lead.
Wilson would add a touchdown pass and another on the ground to set the final score of the game.
Ty Hale completed the Goat scoring with a 13-yard quarterback keeper.
The Groesbeck Goats end their season at 6-4 and 2-4 in district play.
