Warren David Awalt, Sr. 83, of Fairfield, passed away Friday, January 1, 2021 at his residence. Graveside services were held 2:00 p.m. Sunday, January 3, 2021 at Stewards Mill Cemetery with Rev. Tom Prentiss officiating under the direction of Capps Memorial Chapel of Fairfield.
Warren was born at home to Jesse C. and Frances Simmons Awalt in Stewards Mill, TX on October 24, 1937. He was a 1956 graduate of Fairfield High School. In 1961 Warren received his Bachelor of Pharmacy Degree from the University of Texas, graduating with honors. He then went to work for Wood’s Drug Store in Fairfield and in 1963 purchased the business which became Awalt Drug Store. In 1972 he and Gary Stephenson, owner of Town Drug in Fairfield, joined their businesses to form Awalt-Stephenson Drug. They built a new building at the corner of Commerce and Keechi streets. In 2002 the pair retired and sold the business which is now Hometown Pharmacy.
Warren served his community in many business and civic organizations. Board of Directors for Freestone Medical Center, Fairfield EMS, Fairfield State Bank, First National Bank, Community National Bank and Trust, to name a few. He was a Master Mason and member of Fairfield Lodge No. 103 A.F. & A.M.
Warren was a member of Fairfield Harmony Presbyterian Church, serving as an elder throughout his life.
Warren was a loving husband, father and grandfather to his large and blended family. He had many many friends who he loved dearly.
Warren was preceded in death by his parents, an infant brother, wife Sally, sister Bobbie Jo Bentley Battereal; brother in laws, Tom Bentley, Bill Battereal, Leslie Bonner, Son Chad Westover and nephew Judson Davis.
Warren is survived by his wife Sissy Awalt (they just celebrated their 26th anniversary); Children David Awalt (Mary Carol), Jeff Awalt (Futaba), Bobbye Awalt, Kelli Stamper (Mike); Grandchildren Jesse Awalt(Shauna), William Awalt(Lauren), Matthew Awalt, Kourtnee Awalt, Aaron Minze, Averi Minze, Suzune Awalt, Michael Stamper(Lacey), Mikaela Stamper; Great Grandchildren Annabeth, Darcy, Sarafina, Faith, John and Malechi; Brothers and Sister in laws Linda Davis (Warren), James David Willard (Susan), Ann Gokey (Mike) and Elisabeth Bonner. Along with many nieces, nephews and friends.
