Discussions over virtual schooling and new roofing took place during the Fairfield ISD School Board meeting held on Tuesday, October 13, 2020.
The main building on the new property, formerly called the Navarro complex, will be getting replaced by Honey’s Roofing at the cost of $86,700.
Mold and asbestos were found to be located in the building, and a new roof will help to insure that the mold does not return.
With the 2020-2021 school year being unique in the sense of virtual schooling, they school district has not seen a decrease in attendance averages as compared to other school years.
Although, enrollment is lower than it had been in the previous school years.
Fairfield ISD Superintendent Dr. Jason Adams explained that, “There are some students struggling virtually. However, there are also students thriving virtually.”
A discussion did take place on how to best handle the situation with topics from canceling virtual school, as some districts have, requiring students who are struggling virtually to return to an in class setting, and the possible outcomes of either scenario.
Dr. Adams said, “There are districts cancelling all or parts of remote/virtual instruction; however, we are not one of those districts at this time.”
School board meetings are held the second Monday of the month at 6:00 p.m.
