Regent Nancy McSwane welcomed members and guest to the Teague Hotel in Teague, Texas.   A  luncheon and program honoring our Veterans was held on November 13,2019.  After the opening ceremony and DAR Ritual the veterans were recognized and thanked for their service.  
 Regent McSwane recognized Roger S. Brooke of Teague, who was honored with the  Outstanding Veteran Volunteer Award.  This award is presented to a veteran in recognition of outstanding achievement in personal, professional, and family life.  They must have proven significant contributions of leadership, patriotism and increased public awareness of veterans.  
 After returning home from Viet Nam and completing his tour Roger joined  Law Enforcement and retired with 45 years of service.  He served as Constable in Freestone County and is currently serving as reserve Constable for Limestone County.  Through the VFW post # 5872, Roger has been able to help with many successful fund raisers.  He has participated in programs such as  Patriot Pen, Voice of Democracy, scholarships in the Freestone County Schools, as well as assisting the Veterans.
 Judy Taylor, DAR member and Retired E5 DK2 GF14.  She then became a Civil Service employee with the Navy. After 53 years she is still working for the United States Navy, but as a contractor where she is the administrator and special projects manager for Diego Garcia.  Guantanamo Bay is the Navy’s oldest overseas location, and Judy spoke about its History and People.  Her uncle talked of  the traveling and education he had received during his career and this was something she wanted, too.  During her career she has been in 48 states, five U.S. Territories, six continents, 29 countries and 16 islands.  
 Paul Jenkins, Chief Master Sergeant Air Force, was given a Certificate of Appreciation.  Paul spoke about the time he spent in Viet Nam.  Later he and his wife returned to Viet Nam retracing the places he had been during his tour, some he didn’t recognize as they had changed.  The Vietnamese people told him how grateful they were for all the help the American’s had given. 
 Regent McSwane asked that everyone stand during the Military Anthem that signifies the branch of service you or your family member served.
 Any woman 18 years or older, regardless of race, religion, or ethnic background, who can prove lineal descent from an ancestor who aided in achieving American independence is eligible for membership.
