Vernon Schaefer, 94, of Huntsville, passed away Wednesday, December 14, 2022.
He was born December 21, 1927 to Herman and Hilda Schaefer in Lavaca County, TX.
Mr. Schaefer and his loving wife, Bea, had 67 beautiful years of marriage together.
He was an Army Veteran, having served in Japan during WWII.
A God-fearing man, Mr. Schaefer was a founding member and Deacon of Westway Baptist Church of Huntsville.
In his career, he drove semi-trucks for several companies, was warehouse manager for Tupperware; and retired from TDCJ.
He could often be found working in the yard and tending his large vegetable garden, both of which he greatly enjoyed; as well as playing dominos.
He loved his family dearly and spent as much time with them as possible.
Mr. Schaefer was proceeded in death by his parents and brothers, Wilford Schaefer and Leroy Schaefer.
He is survived by his wife; son and daughter-in-law, Dale and Cathy Schaefer of Fairfield, TX; daughter and son-in-law, Ginger and James Rains of Huntsville, TX; grandchildren, Nicole and Jason Schaefer, both of Fairfield, TX; step-grandchildren, Joshua and Jamie Gayle Rains, both of Huntsville, TX; sister, Annie Vaughn of Cleburne, TX; brother, Roland Schaefer of Halletsville, TX; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
Services for Mr. Schaefer were as follows:
Visitation will be Friday, December 16th from 5-7 pm at Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home of Huntsville. Funeral Service are Saturday, December 17th, 11:00 am at Westway Baptist Church of Huntsville. Burial at 3:00 pm that afternoon in Lake Chapel Cemetery of Fairfield.
