As of the end of Friday, May 21, 2021 government entities in the State of Texas may no longer require face coverings. This includes county, city, school district, and public health authority and government officials.
The Executive Order, signed by Texas Governor Greg Abbott, stipulates a fine of up to $1,000 for failure to comply by such government entities.
Public Schools are allowed to continue following current policies regarding the wearing of face coverings until June 4, 2021.
In addition, state supported living centers, government-owned hospitals, and government operated hospitals may continue to use appropriate polices regarding the wearing of face coverings.
Furthermore, business activities and legal proceedings are now free to proceed without COVID-19 related limitations imposed by local government entities and officials. The exception would be in counties with high hospitalizations, as defined by Executive Order GA-34 issued March 2, 2021.
As of Sunday, 21.4 million doses of the COVID-19 vaccine has been administered to 12.3 million Texans.
Just over 40% of people 12 years or older are now fully vaccinated in our state. This number comprises of 68% of Texans as 65 or older.
