A phone call making threats was made this morning. It stated that there was a bomb on campus, a weapon in his car, and a possible hostage. The local law enforcement agencies along with Teague ISD police moved as quickly as possible to take immediate protective precautions for our students and staff. McClenan County assisted with drones and specially trained canine units. The FBI, DPS, and TEA’s Director of Safety were also involved, and the phone number was turned over to them for further investigation. The same phone number has been used nationwide in this type of hoax since October. DPS and the FBI have an investigation open on this situation and others that involved the same number and types of threats. The threat made towards TISD was unfounded and all students and staff at TISD are safe.
During the investigation at TISD, the students were not on lockdown, they were in “secure” mode which simply means they were still in class and working throughout the investigation.
We acknowledge these safety measures frighten parents; however, this instance was a phone threat from someone behind a computer trying to create fear and disrupt normal operations.
TISD acted swiftly to ensure the safety of students and staff. All campuses are back to resuming normal operations and are no longer in “secure” mode.
As we receive more information about the investigation, we will keep you updated. Thank you for your patience and understanding throughout this situation.
