Every two years, the University Interscholastic League sorts the schools into districts and conferences according to attendance. This realignment for 2024-2025 had some drastic changes in football but minimal changes in basketball.
The last time the schools were sorted, the Bi-Stone four, Mexia, Groesbeck, Teague and Fairfield were in a district together for the first time in a long while. This next school year will not only see these schools separated but they will be in different regions.
Fairfield moves to Region III with Crockett, Diboll, Huntington, Palestine Westwood and Teague into District 9-3A Division I.
This could be a difficult move for Fairfield with Diboll, Westwood and Teague coming off playoff years in the last realignment. Huntington joins as a team that has not made the playoffs in decades. Crockett and Fairfield renew a rivalry from years past and the Battle of Freestone County remains fully intact.
The basketball district will remain the same with the four Bi-Stone schools, Buffalo, Elkhart and Palestine Westwood. Only Franklin exits to another district.
Remaining in Region II, the Battle of the River will continue for the next two years. Mexia and Groesbeck move to District 5-3A Division I.
Joining the Limestone County schools will be Grandview, Maypearl, West and Whitney. These four made the playoffs last season and Grandview and West are no strangers to long playoff runs.
Wortham received the hard luck draw of the state. They lost Dawson and Hico, both moving into Division I. The Bulldogs will continue to have perennial state finalist Mart, along with Hubbard, Frost and Meridian from the past two years. Bremond and Chilton come into District 10-2A Division II and become instant favorites. The final school, Goldthwaite, was not on any models for realignment, but somehow end as the western most school in the district.
Buffalo moves into Region III, after a couple of stints in Region IV and will occupy District 11-3A Division II. Elkhart is the only school they retain as a district opponent from the previous realignment. Joining the Bison and Elks are Arp, New Diana, New London West Rusk, Troup and Winona.
The Oakwood Panthers will be in District 12-A Division II with Bynum, Mount Calm and Trinidad.
The Leon Cougars will have one county rival, Centerville, in District 12-2A Division I. Joining these two schools will be Corrigan-Camden, Groveton, Hearne, and Normangee.
