The Troy Trojans built a 28-10 lead and cruised to a bi-district playoff win over the Teague Lions 44-17 at Waco ISD Stadium last Thursday night.
Teague seemed to be healthier and feeling better than the last two weeks of the season when they battled injuries and illness, this time it was too much Troy.
The Lions took the ball first on the night and on the second play of the game, Nemier Herod bounced a run outside and raced 61 yards to the Trojan 10-yard line. The drive stalled and Uriel Medina came on and booted a 30-yard field goal to take the early 3-0 lead less than two minutes into the game.
Troy wasted little time answering the score and taking the lead. The running of Zach Hrbacek quickly put the Trojans in the Teague end of the field and on third and goal from the one, Ben Pressley scored on a quarterback keeper to take a 7-3 lead after the extra point.
On the following kickoff, Satterwhite caught it at the 25-yard line and weaved through the Trojan coverage team on a 75-yard return for the touchdown and the Lions regaining the lead 15 seconds after losing it. Medina added the extra point and the Lions led 10-7 midway through the first quarter.
Troy drove down and missed a field goal near the end of the first quarter but on the first play, freshman quarterback Jake Callahan threw and interception to Tyler Jarolik and he returned it 25 yards for the score and Troy took the lead 14-10.
Following a Teague punt, the Trojans went back to work and on the fifth play of the drive, Pressley connected with Jarolik on a 39-yard touchdown pass and the lead was extended to 21-10.
Early in the second quarter, the Lions put themselves back in scoring position on a 51-yard burst by Herod to the Trojan 20. The drive stalled and Troy took over but they had to punt on their possession.
Teague had another turnover on downs and the Trojans took over on their 31-yard line. After a couple of keepers by Pressly, Hrbacek took the handoff and broke a couple of tackles and ran past the rest on a 63-yard touchdown run to set the halftime lead at 28-10.
Troy took possession of the second half kickoff and moved down to scored early in the third quarter. Pressley hit Beau Workman on a 42-yard pass and run for the touchdown and the lead grew to 34-10 and later 41-10 on a 32-yard touchdown run by Xavier Hernandez, coming on in relief of Hrbacek.
The Lions had one more scoring drive left in the season and put points on the board in the fourth quarter. Callahan converted a second and long with a 28-yard pass to Juan Bernal, and later the touchdown to Satterwhite on the five-yard score to cut the lead to 41-17.
The Trojans would add a 23-yard field goal to set the final score and will move on to face the Crockett Bulldogs in the area round.
