Are you a youth with a disability between the ages of 14 and 24? Do you have access to a computer and the internet? If your answer is yes to both questions, it is possible that you may qualify to attend an exciting new program offered by the Crockett-Palestine Resource Centers for Independent Living (CPRCIL).
Attendees to this free, on-line class must live in one of the following Texas counties: Anderson, Angelina, Cherokee, Freestone, Houston, Leon, Nacogdoches, Panola, Polk and the Alabama-Coushatta Indian Reservation, Rusk, Sabine, San Augustine, Shelby, Smith, Trinity, Tyler.
PRCIL’s new on-line class, Transition to Adulthood, contains six (6) modules which include lessons on Health and Safety, Personal and Social Relationships, Job Readiness and Education, Housing and Transportation, Life Decisions and Responsibilities, and Financial Management.
Module 1, Health and Safety, includes how to make good nutrition choices and lead a healthy lifestyle; the importance of safe sex, birth control, and how they affect your body and lifestyle, sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and how to prevent them; helpful resources available; understanding human trafficking, the traps of a trafficker, and how to stay safe; ways to stay safe during a natural disaster or emergency; illegal substances, narcotics, alcohol, the consequences and risks of use and possession; taking care of your mental and emotional health.
Classes will be held on Tuesdays for ten (10) weeks. The first class will be held on Tuesday, March 12th, 2024.
