Wortham Junior & Major Girls Little Dribbler teams had a special lock-in event prior to their Reginal Tournament. The special guest speaker that night was Rice High School Senior and Top Basketball Player, Saniya Burks.
Saniya is the daughter of one of Wortham High School’s top girls’ basketball players, Kim Branch Burks, a 2002 graduate of WHS, who spent her early years at Teague ISD.
Saniya has achieved a great status as a High School player, known for scoring 75 points in one game and has an average of 30 points per game in her high school career. She is committed to playing for Texas State. She spent her Elementary years as a student of Wortham ISD.
During this special lock-in with little dribblers girls, Saniya gave a short speech, offered a Questions/Answers session, and even played a game of basketball with the young athletes.
The Junior Girls team has earned a spot in the State National Competition to be played in Nacona, Texas on April 3rd-6th, 2024.
“Kim was the best girls’ basketball player to ever play for Wortham High School,” explains Junior Girls Coach, Casey Calame. “It was an honor to have Kim and Saniya out to visit with our teams.”
Congratulations ladies!
