Ballots were finalized last week with one candidate withdrawing from a race and no additional write-ins for local school and city elections.


The City of Wortham and Teague ISD are expected to cancel their elections, as only one candidate has filed for each open position.


City of Wortham
(3) At-Large seats – incumbents Susan Gibbs, Jeff Carr, and Michael Busby face no opposition.


Teague ISD
Place 1 – incumbent Lovie Whyte is unopposed;
Place 3 – candidate Deborah Lawrence is unopposed; incumbent Wayne Williams did not file.


UPCOMING ELECTIONS
Contested races include the cities of Fairfield, Teague and Streetman, and the school districts of Fairfield and Wortham.


Here are the contested ballots, as they stand to date:


City of Fairfield
Mayor – incumbent Kenneth Hughes will face challenger Jason Bosley;
Place 1 – new candidates Jeffrey Price and Bettye Trask will vie for the position;
Place 2 – current councilmen Randy Johnson and James Tyus will face off the spot.


City of Teague

Mayor – incumbent James Monks will face challenger Lois Mims;
Place 1 – incumbent Jerry Ballew is unopposed;
Place 3 – former Alderwoman Marilyn Michaud is unopposed; incumbent Marie Hertenberger withdrew her candidacy.


City of Streetman
Mayor – incumbent Johnny Robinson is unopposed;
(2) At-Large seats – incumbent Commissioners Heather Davis and Barbara Polk, are joined by challenger Billy R. Butler.


Fairfield ISD
(2) At-Large seats – incumbents Kevin Benedict and John Fryer, are joined by challenger Kyle Lightsey.


Wortham ISD
Place 5 – Incumbent Michael Dunn is unopposed;
Place 6 – incumbent Russell Black will face challenger Waylon Gierisch;
Place 7 – incumbent Jeff Jones is unopposed.


Elections are set for Saturday, May 2, 2020 with early voting to start April 20th.


In addition, a Special Election has been called for Fairfield Hospital District (FHD) for Voting for or against the proposition to reducing the tax rate.


This election will be held jointly with Fairfield ISD.
