The Jonathan Hardin Chapter, NSDAR met at the Gibbs Memorial Library in Mexia, Texas on December 2, 2020. The meeting was called to order and special guests welcomed by Regent Nancy McSwane. The invocation was given by Honorary Regent, Aleece McBay.
Regent Nancy McSwane led members in the DAR ritual. A National Defense Report was given by Leigh Ann Steen in honor of Pearl Harbor Day. Registrar Patti Gauntt inducted new member, Julia Morton into the chapter as our newest member.
Diane Pullin introduced Lisa Underhill who spoke of her program in Fairfield assisting the elderly and disabled with their needs.
Afterwards, Regent Nancy McSwane presented Lisa with the Community Service Award. Lisa has been working tirelessly helping others in her community and is well deserved and commended for her efforts.
The chapter was delighted to welcome speaker Denise Bennett, portraying Historical figure, Carrie Chapman Catt, and presenting the program “The Women’s Hour” A presentation on Women’s Suffrage. Carrie Chapman Catt was an American women’s suffrage leader who campaigned for the Nineteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution, which gave U.S. women the right to vote in 1920. Mrs Bennett gave an astounding performance in her portrayal, which brought the history alive during this time in our American History.
Any woman 18 years or older, regardless of race, religion or ethnic background, who can prove lineal descent from an ancestor who aided in achieving American Independence is eligible for membership.
