Polls will be open from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the Primary Elections on Tuesday, March 3rd.

Election night results were to be posted online at www.FreestoneCountyTimes.com.  Look for election results in next week’s print edition.

In Texas, Primary Elections are held for both the Republican party and Democratic party in order to select their nominee for each position on the ballot for the November 3rd General Election.

Candidates for the Libertarian and Green parties are chosen at their respective party conventions.

Independent candidates are granted ballot access through a petition process.

In the Primary Elections, a candidate must receive a majority of the vote – at least 50% – in order to secure their party’s nomination.

With multiple candidates running for several positions this year, voters could expect at least one of these races to continue on to the Run-Off Elections set for May 26, 2020.

A Texas primary runoff election is triggered when no candidate in the primary election receives more than 50 percent of the votes. The top two candidates have a runoff election.

Perhaps one of the most hotly contested races in the Primaries is that of District 17 – U.S. Representative.

The Democratic party has three candidates vying for the position, and the Republican party has twelve, including former U.S. Representative Pete Sessions, who moved his place of residence last year in order to qualify to run for this seat.

That did not sit well with congressman Bill Flores, who is retiring from his District 17 position.  Flores has endorsed Republican candidate, Renee Swann.

Others seeking the Republican nomination for District 17 are Todd Kent, Trent Sutton, George W. Hindman, Elianor Vessali, Laurie Godfrey McReynolds, Ahmad Adnan, Jeff Oppenheim, Kristen Alamo Rowin, Scott Bland and David Saucedo.

The majority of County level position are unopposed, all of which are listed as Republicans.

County positions up for election include:  County Attorney Brian Evans, County Sheriff Jeremy Shipley, County Tax Assessor-Collector Daniel M. Ralstin (incumbent Lisa Foree did not file for re-election), County Commissioner – Pct. 1 Andy Bonner, Constable – Pct. 1 Buck Bonner, and Constable – Pct. 2 Daniel Ramsey (incumbent Lynn Clary did not file for re-election).

Local Contested Races

Several races in Precinct 3 and Precinct 4 have multiple candidates.

Again, all are listed in the Republican Primary.

  Contested races include:

–County Commissioner – Pct. 3:  Ronnie French, Lloyd Lynn Lane, and Sonoma Adkins (incumbent Mike Daniels did not file for re-election).

–County Constable – Pct. 3:  Richard Lee McGowan, L.J. McAdams, and Pamela Brackens Barnes (incumbent)

–County Constable – Pct. 4:  Ken I. Sessions and Michael Fred Carter (incumbent Wade Harrison did not file for re-election).
