Teddy (Ted) Douglas Mayo was born on the Ellen Austin place just outside of Kerens, Texas on November 11, 1940. It was a cold day and he arrived famished, beginning his lifelong appreciation of a timely and satisfying meal. He was the third of five children born to Hardy P. and Hazel Marie Mayo.
Ted grew up in Kerens where he excelled at sports, academics and having fun. He graduated from Kerens High School in 1959 as the Valedictorian. He then attended Texas A&M, where he was in Squadron 11 of the Corps of Cadets, and majored in Civil Engineering. He remained committed to the values and traditions of his alma mater, always displaying honesty and integrity.
On August 18,1962 his life changed forever. He met Patricia Carroll Rogers of Palacios, Texas on a blind date. They married on January 26, 1963 and had a great love story that lasted nearly 60 years on earth and will continue forever in Heaven. They had three children, six grandchildren and built their life around family, faith and personal responsibility.
At the age of 27, Ted gave his life to Jesus Christ. He lived his faith quietly, but it was extremely important to him. He rooted for the underdog and helped many others. almost always behind the scenes. In his work and in his home, Ted was a person of his word. Texas Utilities brought him and his family to Fairfield in 1974 and though he would move away and back a few times, he considered Fairfield home.
