The “Hendon House,” located on the corner of south 9th and Elm St was originally built in 1909 by Dr. J. B. Gordon. Dr. Gordon owned and operated his office out of the house and also owned a pharmacy in town, his son, Lucian, was the pharmacist here in town.

Patients would enter the back door and go upstairs to his office.

The house was also used as a school at one time and the original chalkboard is still there in what is now the shop.

The Covington’s were the next owners of the house.

The Covington’s loved to travel, Mrs. Covington had a beautiful collection of plates from all of their destinations.

Unfortunately, while they were away on a trip, the house was broken into and several things were stolen, including the plate collection.

G.B. Hendon and his wife Mary resided in the home in the 20th century.

The Hendon’s were a prominent family in Teague at the time and loved to host lavish parties.

They would push the furniture back and have a dance floor, with a band in what is now the office/library and refreshments in the dining room.

They kept an immaculate home, and Mrs. Hendon was known to be an incredible hostess.

Johnny and Mimi Brown purchased the home following the Hendon’s.

Johnny worked as a painter and Mimi is well known from working at the Teague Chronicle for several years.

They did a lot of work on the home painting the exterior its current colors of green and white.

The sitting room and master bedroom are still in the colors they chose.

There was a wall behind the staircase and living room that Johnny removed that is being replaced by decorative beams by Jeff and Nicole Roberts, the current owners.

Jeff and Nicole purchased the home in 2019 from the Brown’s and have worked hard to restore the house to its earlier grandeur, working room by room.

One of the upstairs bedrooms has been restored, as well as the dining room and library.

The Robert’s will open their doors for visitors to tour their beautiful home for the Tour of Homes, Saturday December 14, 2024, from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
