Texas Rangers and the U.S. Marshals have arrested Larry Kent Bonner, Jr.,(pictured at right) 18, of Teague in connection with an incident that left two men dead and one wounded early Sunday, August 28th.
Law enforcement believes the shooting was the result of a drug deal or robbery attempt gone wrong.
Officers responded to gunshots at the University Trails apartments in the 1100 block of Luther Street in College Station at 2 a.m. They found Brysen Jamal Rhodes, 20, of Wortham and Jack Lopez, 20, of Rosenberg outside an apartment with gunshot wounds. The men were taken to local hospitals, where they died from their injuries, say police.
Another man, whose name has yet to be released, was found in the apartment with gunshot wounds to the abdomen and leg. He was later discharged from the hospital after being treated.
Authorities say detectives believe Rhodes, and at least one other man, planned to meet Lopez to either purchase drugs or commit a robbery. During the exchange, a fight broke out and gunshots were fired by both parties. The man that went to the apartment with Rhodes ran off.
Police later identified this man as Larry Kent Bonner, Jr.
A woman in the apartment locked herself in the bathroom and was not injured. Police believe she made the 911 call.
According to reports, University Trails resident, Austin Moore, who lives in the same building where the shooting occurred, said he was leaving his apartment around 2 a.m. to pick up a friend from a party when he witnessed a man with curly blond hair wearing a hat running from the apartment.
Soon after, Moore said, another man came from the building “screaming belligerently” and looking for the man who had run out.
A third man followed the first two men out of the apartment, Moore said.
“The first guy was out in the parking lot hiding behind cars,” he said. “The third guy was saying ‘No, don’t do it. Don’t do it, man. Calm down.’ Right after that, I heard five gunshots.”
Moore said he waited about 10 minutes inside his parked car before leaving the area just as police were arriving.
Authorities also believe Bonner was part of a group that robbed three people at an apartment in the 1300 block of Harvey Mitchell Parkway around 12:30 a.m. Sunday. According to College Station PD, four men knocked on an apartment door, demanded drugs and money, but took video games and a hover board when the residents told them they had no drugs or money. One resident was allegedly hit in the head with a gun after trying to get the items back.
Four warrants for aggravated robbery were issued for Bonner, who was arrested in McKinney on Tuesday night, August 30th. His bond is set a $200,000 for each count.
An additional arrest has been made in connection with the robbery on Harvey Mitchell Parkway.
Dalton Colaluca, 19, (pictured at left) of Midlothian, admitted to investigators that he participated in the robbery and police say evidence corroborating that fact was found at his apartment, along with hash oil. Authorities say they do not believe he was involved in the shooting incident.
Colaluca faces three counts of aggravated robbery, with bond set at $200,000 for each count. He also faces a charge of possession of a controlled substance. Bond for that charge has not been set as yet.
Detectives are attempting to identify anyone that might have been involved in the incident; and are asking anyone with information to call 979-764-3600.
