Teague Intermediate School Principal Vickey Little will continue her post, following an executive session of the TISD Board of Trustees on Thursday, May 18, 2017.
Disciplinary actions of Ms. Little were called into question by parents, earlier this month, in regards to an incident in the boys bathrooms.
Teague Superintendent, Dr. Nate Carman, released the following statement:
“On Friday, May 12, Teague Intermediate School Principal Vickey Little met with all 4th grade boys in the cafeteria to discuss ongoing issues in a bathroom that could have affected the health of a number of students. Those issues included someone using their finger to smear feces and write curse words on a bathroom stall.
“Principal Little’s intent was to teach the students a lesson regarding personal hygiene and the importance of washing their hands properly.
“While those intentions were good, unfortunately she made an error in judgment on her directions to students to convey her message. At no time did she force any students to do anything detrimental to their health.
“Teague ISD administration received complaints about the incident and immediately investigated. The facts were presented to the TISD Board of Trustees Thursday night, May 18, in a closed session as allowed by law. The Board determined even though it was an isolated event, disciplinary steps were warranted. Mrs. Little accepted those consequences and also apologized for her actions.
“Personnel matters of this nature are protected by state and federal privacy laws, so no specifics will be released regarding the Board’s decision.
“As always, Teague ISD’s main concern is the safety of our students and providing each of them a quality educational experience. We will focus on that goal the rest of this school year.”
