The Teague Lions took to the road and grabbed a convincing win over the Maypearl Panthers Friday night. They clinched a playoff berth and can improve on the seeding with a win over rival West in the regular season finale this Friday night.
The Lions jumped out quickly and never looked back, building a 34-0 halftime lead and turning the game over to the reserves and they finished the contest.
The Lions had huge offensive night through the air.
Freshman quarterback Jake Callahan completed 11 of 17 passes for 214 yards and a couple of touchdowns. His favorite target was Drew Satterwhite with seven catches and 158 yards and one score.
Nemier Herod was the man in the end zone all night with three rushing touchdowns and a receiving touchdown to go with his 102 rushing yards.
It was a solid bounce back game for Teague from giving up 61 points to the Whitney Wildcats a week ago.
The top spot in the district race was decided Friday with a Whitney Wildcat upset win over Grandview. The Wildcats came from behind to upset the defending champs and will take the top seed heading into the playoffs and the Grandview Zebras will take the second slot. This should set up an enormous bi-district matchup with Rockdale in the first round of the state since the Tigers look to be behind Cameron Yoe and district champion Troy.
The winner of the Teague game against West will determine the seeding of the final two spots. The winner will likely get the Cameron Yoemen and the team taking the loss will draw the upstart Troy Trojans in the first round. Troy ended the season for the Teague Lions last year at Mexia High School.
