The Teague Lions built a 26-7 halftime lead and then let the reserves take the rest of the game in a 40-14 over an overmatched Palestine Westwood Panther team.
The Lions could not better their playoff standing so the win was a workmanlike effort.  The Teague offense kept things basic and were able to get a lead and allow the other players to finish the game and five players did not even suit up for the contest to get ready for the playoffs.
Teague took the opening kickoff and worked their way downfield for an easy two-yard run by Tayvis Coleman with 9:07 remaining in the first quarter.
After a short punt, Coleman took the handoff and raced 55 yards for the second touchdown but a penalty was called and the points came off the scoreboard.  On the next play from scrimmage, quarterback Antonio Heard passed downfield to Anthony Weathers for a 51-yard score.  The one play drive gave the Lions a 14-0 lead midway through the first quarter.
Westwood got their offense going some and marched inside the Lion 25-yard line.  On fourth and nine from the Lion 21, B.J. McQuirter knocked the ball away on a pass to the endzone.  The Panthers were trying for their second touchdown pass all season.
The Panthers forced a punt and took over on their own 22-yard line.  J.D. Clewis took the handoff and was forced back to the 20 then raced up the far sideline for the 78-yard touchdown run and cut the lead to 14-7.
The Lions answered quickly and they turned to Coleman.  He took the toss and sprinted past the Panther defense for a 56-yard run midway through the second quarter. It was the first play of the drive following a penalty on Teague during a Tyrese Heard 60-yard punt return.  The kick was no good but the Lions held a comfortable 20-7 lead.
Coleman scored his third touchdown of the night with 1:55 remaining in the first half and the personnel was about to change with a 26-7 lead.
The Lions used several combinations in the game and they were able to keep the lead and the game was never in question.  Kade Collins finished a drive by bulldozing his way into the endzone for the touchdown that would increase the lead to 33-7.  Mikel West added a late touchdown run of 64 yards to close out the Lion scoring.
On the ensuing kickoff, Westwood added their first highlight since the opening week of the season.  Rod Warren cracked through the Teague kickoff unit for a 68-yard kickoff return and finish the Teague win at 40-14.
The Teague Lions finish the season with an 8-2 record.  They claimed second place in District 9-3A Division II and will take on the Franklin Lions.  The game is set for Midway High School in Hewitt on Friday.  Game time is set for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff.
