The Teague Lion Band earned a Sweepstakes for Concert and Sight-Reading UIL Competition last week.

The evaluation consists of two distinct segments, both of which are required:

–Concert Evaluation: The band performs a prepared program of three selections. Three judges evaluate the performance on stage.

–Sight-Reading Evaluation: Immediately following the concert, the band moves to a separate room to perform a piece of music they have never seen before. Directors have a few minutes to look at the piece and then teach the music to students without playing any notes before the actual performance.

Groups are evaluated against a statewide standard rather than against each other. Ratings are given on a scale of I to V, with Division I (Superior) being the highest possible score.

–Sweepstakes Trophy: This prestigious award is given to a band that receives a composite Division I rating in three areas over the school year: marching (held in the fall), concert performance, and sight-reading.

Congratulations, Lions!
