A Teague homeowner, who had recently moved to the small town for the quiet, received a rather loud visitor late Saturday night, January 11, 2020 when a Chevrolet pickup crashed into his manufactured home, moving it eighteen inches from the entryway steps.
Evan Langlois was connecting his newly installed entertainment center when he realized he needed a longer cable for his subwoofer.
That cable might have very well have saved his life.
As he searching for the cable, Langlois heard a huge noise that shook the entire house.
Langlois turned around and said to himself, “What just happened to my house?”
He went outside to see a pickup truck crumpled against his home, and asked the driver if she was okay. She was conscious, but incoherent, according to Langlois.
After retrieving his phone from the debris inside the house, Langlois called 911.
Langlois explained that a sheriff’s deputy that lived nearby heard the impact and arrived to the scene while he was still on the phone.
From what Langlois saw and experienced, he believes the truck was traveling at a high rate of speed. The residential area posts a 30 mph speed limit, according to the homeowner.
The manufactured home sits facing a “T” section of road; the car did not make the turn. Instead, it traveled forward, crashing into the mailbox and then the side of the home.
The impact pushed the house back a full eighteen inches, as shown in pictures of the aftermath.
The drywall is cracked in multiple rooms of the residence, and there are seams in the flooring.
The pickup truck was completely crumpled on the front end.
The worst injury the homeowner suffered was glass in his feet, and the pure shock of what had happened.
The driver was transported, but no more details are known about her condition at press time.
Langlois reports that his insurance is taking care of him, but it will be a bit of time before his home is back to its pre-crash condition.
Teague Police Department is investigating, but was not available for comment at press time.
Teague Fire Department, Teague EMS, and Freestone County Sheriff’s Office assisted at the scene.
