Freestone County Commissioners unanimously approved an updated Tax Abatement Guidelines and Criteria, as well as an Order designating a Reinvestment Zone for Tax Abatement for Lonestar Body Systems, LLC during their February 27, 2019 meeting.

Lonestar Body Systems, LLC, located at the old Permian Lide facility just west of Teague on Highway 84, requested Tax Abatement on their upcoming $1.7 million upgrades.

The company, based out of Corsicana, chose this location a warehouse and fabrication facility. They currently employ approximately 85 and have plans to hire another 100-115 employees once renovation is completed.

According to David Fowler with Fairfield Economic Development Corporation, the company more than meets the criteria for obtaining Tax Abatement.

Also at this meeting, Commissioners accepted a $500 donation to Senior Services from Community National Bank & Trust and approved a bid of $81,700 from Neyland Bridge Construction to build a bridge on Freestone County Road 253 in Precinct #1.

Freestone County Sheriff Jeremy Shipley announced that Jail Administrator Sheena Wimberly has resigned from her post. Mrs. Wimberly was recently put on paid leave following the discovery that as Jail Administrator, she is required to have a Jailer’s License, of which she did not have. During her time off, she was to obtain said license, but has chosen to resign her position instead.

No word yet as to who will be replacing Mrs. Wimberly as Jail Administrator.

The “Times” will update as details become available.
