Tau Chapter of DKG met Monday, October 2, 2023 at 4:30 p.m. Alicia Smith provided refreshments and we enjoyed some time to visit and catch up at our first meeting of the year.
Tau Chapter has been giving the Carolina C. Forsythe Grant-in-Aid for over 15 years to qualifying beginning female teachers from our 7 local ISD’s. Other qualifications are candidates must be certified at the beginning of the school year and be in their first ever classroom.
Candidates must attend our October meeting with the printed and completed application.
We were very excited to have two “0” year teachers attending this year, and each received a $100.00 check.
Megan Gonzales graduated from Stephen F. Austin State University and now teaches 2nd grade at Teague Elementary School.
Leigh Waller graduated from Sam Houston State University with a bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology and a concentration in clinical exercise science. She teaches health at Groesbeck Middle School and is the assistant softball coach at Groesbeck High School.
They both love seeing their students learn and grow. They stayed for our wonderful presenter Ms. Maya Sample, the Communities in Schools (CIS) Coordinator at Groesbeck High School.
Ms. Sample has 18+ years of service experience in the Human Service Field. After being brought up in the heart of Oak Cliff, Dallas, TX she relocated to the Groesbeck area over 14 years ago. She says, “she primarily works with kids and families experiencing unfavorable circumstances.”
Her life experiences provide the foundation for which she relates to the students and families she serves. She is set to graduate with a Master’s of Social Work from Prairie View A & M University in the Fall of 2024.
Tau Chapter loves to see these key women educators and hear about their time making a difference in our local schools.
