An alleged con artist named Clarence Jones met his match with Deputy Fleming and Deputy Leatherman of the Freestone County Sheriff’s Office according to the release from the FCSO.

As per the report, Jones had stopped his vehicle on the roadway, near FM 416 and Hwy 287, and was stopping traffic in an attempt to get money to help him get his vehicle fixed.

The deputies began investigating and they found that the hood could be closed, the key did turn, and the vehicle even drove just fine.

After Jones’ arrest, it was discovered by FCSO that he is also suspected similar action in at least three counties – Limestone, Navarro and Leon – to try to get money from people passing by.

Jones was charged with Obstructing Highway Passageway, and at the time of press was being held on a $1000 bond.

FCSO Sheriff Shipley reminds everyone, “Don’t be swindled folks. There are cons of all kinds. Also, be very careful when in areas that lack good lighting and/or vehicle or pedestrian traffic. People like to take advantage of those who are willing to help.”

If you ever suspect a con, contact your local police department and/or sheriff’s office.
