Area Law Enforcement was engaged in a man hunt on Friday, March 24 after receiving information there was possibly a man in the area who was armed and dangerous.

It’s reported that at initial contact, the suspect was very aggressive toward officers, even using a flag pole as a weapon before running off.
On Friday, March 24, 2017 Freestone County Sheriff Jeremy Shipley put out a Citizen Safety Alert via the FCSO’s Facebook page.

The alert stated that residents living in the area of FCR 930 between FM 1366 and Limestone County should be on the lookout for a white male approximately 5’6” weighing about 160 pounds with red hair and tattoos on both arms, wearing black slacks.

Residents were advised to secure their home and vehicles, to stay inside, and to report any suspicious persons in the area.

Just before 7:00 p.m. that evening, FCSO Deputies responded to the 1200 block of FCR 930 in the Cotton Gin area in regard to two counts of Assault/Family Violence.

The Deputies were met with aggression by the subject, Charles Fortson, who was armed with a flag pole as a weapon. He eventually dropped the weapon, running through the residence, out the back door, and into the woods.

After gathering information, it was found that Fortson was considered armed and dangerous; and was wanted for a Parole Violation.

At the time, a perimeter was set up by other agencies that had arrived to assist. TDCJ Warden was contacted for tracking dogs; and horseback assistance was given from the Boyd Unit.

Fortson was apprehended after searching for just over an hour.
