Position to be filled until Election can be set for unexpired term

The position of Freestone County Treasurer is now vacant as Jeannie Keeney resigns to relocate with her family to south Texas.

Considering this change, Freestone County will be hiring an Interim Treasurer to serve in the position until the special election can be held in November.

According to Freestone County Judge Linda Grant, interested parties may submit a resume to her office at the Freestone County Courthouse to be considered for the interim position. Resumes will be accepted through Friday, August 9, 2024, at 4:00 p.m.

In the meantime, according to Judge Grant, both Republican and Democrat parties will nominate a candidate for the elected position, and a Special Election will be held in conjunction with the November 5 General Election to determine the new County Treasurer, who will serve the remainder of a two-year term: up for re-election in 2026.

For more information about how to file for candidacy and filing deadlines, contact either Freestone County Chair, Keith Turchi (Republican) or Opal Oliver (Democrat).

Both parties will be hosting a meeting for their members next week:

The Freestone County Republicans will meet Tuesday, August 13th at the Republican Headquarters in Fairfield beginning at 5:30 p.m.

The Freestone County Democrats will have their monthly meeting on Thursday, August 15th at Sam’s Original Restaurant in Fairfield beginning at 5:30 p.m.
