Schools in Freestone County have all announced closures for Tuesday, January 16, 2024.

And, while temperatures will climb above freezing on the following day, the ice may need some time to thaw enough for safety.

“Due to the current weather and road conditions and the sustained temperatures below freezing, Fairfield ISD will be closed tomorrow out of caution,” they said.

FISD school officials also added that all basketball games, including the match-ups against Teague, will be moved to Wednesday.

“Teague ISD will be closed on Tuesday, January 16th due to inclement and deteriorating weather,” said TISD Superintendent Chris Skinner.

Wortham ISD superintendent Melissa Mosely added that in addition to closing school on Tuesday due to the freezing weather and precipitation, ALL activities would also be postponed and rescheduled.

“We will continue to monitor the weather and will update as needed,” she said. “Stay warm and safe!’

Dew ISD seemed to be the first to announce that the school would be closed on Tuesday “due to unsafe driving conditions.”

Faith Academy of Freestone cautioned their students, staff and families to “be safe and stay warm,” as they announced their Tuesday closure.

Parents are encouraged to check their phone alerts, school websites, or social media pages to confirm what time schools will open on Wednesday.
