The Teague Lions are the only team to have played two district games and they have ended up short both times, this one to state powerhouse Malakoff 77-0 at Tiger Stadium.
Malakoff put on an offensive clinic with a 49- 0 halftime lead and never looked back. The Tiger defense held the Lions to six yards total offense and forced two turnovers in the convincing district opening win.
The Tigers put the opening points on the board on a five-yard touchdown run by Duce Hart in the first few minutes of the game. Tekeenan Langley added another score with a 35-yard run following a short punt by the Lions special teams unit. Riggin Smith had a four-yard run to end another first quarter drive and concluded the scoring in the quarter when Smith finished a catch and run covering 74 yards.
Jay Moseley increased the lead to 35- 0 on a 21-yard run and Jaylon Hart caught the second touchdown pass by quarterback Darion Peace on a 44-yard scoring play with 4:44 remaining in the first half. K’Vionne Davis had a short scoop and score on a Teague fumble and Langley added a second touchdown to lead 49-0 at the half.
The Tigers were in complete control with two touchdowns in each of the final two quarters to set the final score.
The Teague Lions will wait for the rest of the district to gain at least one game over the next week. The new schedule, sparked by the COVID pandemic, has the Lions off until October 14, when they travel to Groesbeck to take on the Goats. Fairfield will be in action that same night in their district opener at the Boneyard in Eustace. Malakoff takes on a 1-0 Groesbeck team at Goat Stadium on Thursday night.
