“Some Fly, We Soar,” are the words on a plague behind the FISD School Board platform.
If this monthly school board meeting is any indication, Fairfield ISD is, indeed, soaring, under the direction of Interim Superintendent Bill Boyd.
The Lady Eagles Volleyball team was recognized first for making regional finals and narrowly missing the opportunity to go to State.
Intermediate Principal, Shetonia Scires asked Third, Forth, and Fifth Grade “Star” students (pictured at top) to come up front to be recognized: Third Graders are Savanna Stutts, Allison Ocampo, Charlie Longron, and Tessa Ballew, Fourth Graders are Lena Morris, Annabelle Meister, Austin Farrell, and Abigail Snider. Fifth Grades are: Bristol Schick, Brandt Evans, Sophia Ivy and Memphis Wren.
Ms. Scires asked the Fifth Graders to recount activities for September which included fund raisers, a craft and game event, and learning Folk and Canadian songs.
The Board again entered into the Region 10 Co-op program.
Tech Director, Arland Thilll, asked the Board to approve a policy to include standards for technology use. This was approved.
Thill also reported on the use of funds, previously approved in the amount of $250,000, to purchase new computers, monitors, and cameras for the teachers. He was able to purchase 360 computers for $104,400 and monitors for $39,875 as the State School had already donated 125. The cameras cost $37,875. Of the $250,000, he spent only $176,875 by researching good buys.
A grant of $28,428 from FISD Education Foundation was used to purchase large learning boards at the Intermediate campus for small group instruction, and three teachers were also given a share of the grant. The band benefited by getting a drone.
Interim Superintendent Boyd indicated that the were a total of 1,652 students at this time with 518 at the high school campus.
FISD Board voted to disburse its 95 votes for Navarro Appraisal Board among the 6 candidates evenly.
The Board was given 1,533 votes for Freestone County Central Appraisal Board members. The discussion was to use 834 votes for one candidate as this would guarantee that person a place and, perhaps use the remaining among 3 other candidates. The matter was tabled until the December meeting.
The Board then went into executive session.
